Feminine Hygiene Systems

Feminine hygiene waste is either disposed of in a non-hazardous landfill or by incineration. Most clinical waste treatment sites are not authorised to dispose of feminine hygiene waste because it is not infectious. We make sure that the site we dispose all feminine waste in is fully authorised to dispose feminine waste.

Under UK environmental legislation, feminine hygiene waste is not categorised as clinical waste. Providing that it is considered as non-infectious, disposing of waste does not require specialist treatment or disposal methods.

According to accepted guidelines, sanitary bins should be sanitised, cleaned and serviced on a regular basis. The standard service period should be no longer than 6 weeks and ideally 4 weeks. Most sanitary bins or antimicrobial liners are only effective up to 8 weeks.
